The Opportunities and Obstacles of Aging: From Policy to Personal - Knowing the Facts

April 29 – May 1, 2021

Dallas, Texas

During this meeting, The Texas Lyceum will explore the realities of aging from policy issues to personal matters that affect all of us. Over the next 15 years, Texas is expected to add nearly 10 million more people, increasing our state population to 38 million. The population of Texans 65-years-old and older is projected to grow by 78% over that time period, while the overall population will grow by less than half that (33%), making the 65+ demographic one of the fastest growing in the state.

We will discuss the potential policy implications as this demographic grows, such as economic and workforce impacts, housing, and health care and social service needs. We will also cover the very real personal concerns of aging including living considerations, health care and financial wellbeing, and challenges for caregivers. We will provide thoughtful and pragmatic insight into a question that is on the mind of many: How can Texans age with dignity and peace of mind and enjoy a well-lived life?
