Program Overview:
- Lunch at the Hotel Saint George
- Keynote Presentation by Robert Edsel: Robert Edsel is a bestselling author, historian, and philanthropist, best known for his work on the Monuments Men and the preservation of cultural treasures during and after World War II. His acclaimed book, The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History, was made into a major motion picture. Edsel’s passion for art conservation has led him to found the Monuments Men Foundation for the Preservation of Art, which works to safeguard cultural heritage. With his extensive research and expertise, he has become a leading voice on the intersection of art, history, and preservation. His work continues to inspire efforts to protect and celebrate the world’s cultural treasures.
- Afternoon's Excursion to Fort Davis, a National Historic Site in Texas: Fort Davis is one of the best surviving examples of Indian Wars' frontier military post in the Southwest. From 1854 to 1891, Fort Davis was strategically located to protect emigrants, mail coaches, and freight wagons on the Trans-Pecos portion of the San Antonio-El Paso Road and on the Chihuahua Trail.
- Evening: Chuckwagon Dinner and Star's Evening Party at the McDonald Observatory:
Enjoy a traditional Chuckwagon Dinner, offering both a communal meal and a chance to unwind and reflect on the day’s activities. Cap off your day with an unforgettable Star Party at the McDonald Observatory, where you’ll have the chance to stargaze with experts in one of the best locations for astronomy in the United States. Enjoy night sky constellation tours in the Helen S. Martin Star Amphitheater and views of celestial objects through a number of telescopes in the Rebecca Gale Telescope Park.
